If you’re thinking about going to art school, you’re currently in art school, or you went to art school you’ve probably asked yourself this question at some point in time:
Is art school/was my art degree worth it?
I get it…
We live in a culture that doesn’t give art the credit it deserves. And I can definitely say that I’ve gotten my fair share of smirks after proudly declaring that I went to art school. But as someone who deeply values the arts, it gets really frustrating.
Obviously, art school isn’t for everyone.
And of course, you don’t have to go to school or get some kind of certification to technically become an artist.
But if I were given the chance to pick something more “practical” to study from the get-go, I’d politely decline.
I loved art school, because it taught me a lot more than how to take good photos, such as…
- Critical thinking
- Research skills
- Flexibility and compromise
- Setting and working towards self-defined goals
- Communicating effectively with a groups of people
- And a WHOLE lot more
